Tragic Apartment Fire in Sharpstown Area
WHAT:
2-Alarm Apartment Fire
WHEN:
December 24, 2018 at 7:58 a.m.
WHERE:
7018 S. Gessner, 77036
INJURIES:
1 civilian fatality, 1 civilian transported to the hospital, 1 firefighter transported to the hospital.
PROPERTY SAVED:
$1 million in estimated property saved
DAMAGE:
$1,500,000 in estimated damage
CAUSE:
HFD Arson investigators and HPD are currently investigating the cause of this fire and fatality
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Firefighters arrived on scene with reports of multiple people trapped and heavy fire coming from two apartment buildings. Crews began to attack the fire and conduct a search for the trapped occupants. Several residents had jumped from their apartment unit windows and were evaluated on scene. One resident was found and taken outside of a window down to a ladder. An adolescent child was found deceased. The fire was extinguished and HFD Arson investigators and the Houston Police Department were requested to determine the cause and origin of the fire and the fatality. The Harris County Medical Examiner was also notified. The American Red Cross assisted the displaced residents of three apartment buildings. Crews from Stations 10, 51, 68, 73, 16, 82, 2, 15, 21, 28, 78, 83, 29, 37, 48, 49, 57, 60, 75, 76, 77, 16, , 21, 69, 8, 24, 30 and Hazmat, Heavy Rescue 11, Rescue 10, Rescue 42, Rehab responded to this incident. The HFD Critical Incident Stress Management Team was also requested for the
responding firefighters.
