Suicide Awareness: Mayor Turner and  local groups will discuss suicide prevention for veterans, active military and family members

Preventing suicide among veterans and active military members, Mayor Turner to join effort to raise awareness and call for action

Houston is one of the original seven cities to participate in the Mayor’s Challenge, organized by the U-S Department of Veterans Affairs and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.

As part of The Mayor’s Challenge and National Suicide Prevention Month, Mayor Turner will join local active military and veterans organizations to raise awareness and promote programs that support veterans and their families.

The Houston Mayor’s Challenge is a partnership between the City of Houston police, fire, health and veteran affairs departments, the Houston V-A, the Texas Health and Human Services Commission, the Harris Center, the Council on Recovery, Combined Arms and other local prevent suicides among service members,veterans and their families.
