Police Chief Acevedo, HPD Officers to Distribute Items Collected During Comida Drive
From 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. TOMORROW (Saturday, December 16), Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo, along with numerous Houston police officers and volunteers, will distribute boxed food collected during this year’s Comida/Food Drive to area churches that pre-registered to participate in the program.
The distribution will be at the Pepsi Bottling Plant at 9300 La Porte Freeway.
Thanks to the generosity of the Houston community, food and monetary donations were collected by HPD officers at Fiesta Mart locations throughout Houston during the police department’s 33rd annual Comida/Food Drive. This has enabled HPD to provide more than 3500 boxes of food to needy families this holiday season.
Special thanks to the sponsors of the annual food drive: Fiesta Mart, the Pepsi Bottling Group, the Houston Citizens’ Police Academy Alumni Association, the Police and Clergy Alliance and the Houston Police Foundation.
The churches pre-registered to receive the boxes of food also provided volunteers and many man hours to make this operation possible. The churches then take the boxes of food back to their communities and distribute them to their neighbors in need.
