Media Alert: HPD Chief, Teens to Discuss Drug Abuse and Conflict Resolution
At 9 a.m. TOMORROW (Saturday, March 23), Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo will meet with members of the Youth Police Advisory Council (YPAC) at the HPD Edward A. Thomas Building at 1200 Travis to discuss issues most important in the lives of teens today.
Among the topics the teens will discuss are conflict resolution and drug and alcohol abuse.
The meeting will also be streamed by HPD on Facebook Live and viewers will be able to submit questions as the discussion is happening.
YPAC fosters communication and trust between the HPD and area youth. Since 1997, the council has provided a forum where a diverse, volunteer group of high school teenagers meet with the Chief of Police, other police officials, and adult mentors to share and discuss issues of importance to Houston’s youth, with an emphasis on law enforcement topics.
Council members are recruited from the Houston Independent School District and other surrounding school districts. The students are asked to share their experiences with fellow teens and their communities.
