Media Advisory: MLK Day Parade

Media advisory for the 41st annual Original MLK Day Parade on Monday, January 21.
WHAT:
Mayor Turner will join the Black Heritage Society for the city-backed, unified 41st annual Original MLK Day Parade honoring Dr. King’s life and legacy.

Special guests:
The 2019 Grand Marshals are U.S. Representative and Civil Rights Leader John Lewis, along with Astros Outfielder and 2017 World Series MVP, George Springer and Grammy-nominated performer Brian Courtney Wilson.
WHEN:
10 a.m. Monday, January 21.
WHERE:
The parade’s new route will start at Lamar and Smith near Houston City Hall.
* 9 a.m. – media check-in begins at the northwest corner of Smith and McKinney.
* 9:30 a.m. – parade opening ceremony begins featuring Mayor Turner, Congressman Lewis, George Springer, Brian Courtney-Wilson and the MLK Parade Unified Choir.
* 9:55 am – participants take group photo
* 10 a.m. – parade begins
* Thank you for covering the parade.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
TASTE OF HOUSTON: Immediately following the parade, the Black Heritage Society will host the 3rd Annual MLK, Jr. Taste of Houston festival at Hermann Square (900 Smith St.) in Downtown Houston.
