Local agencies to kick off outreach efforts to sign up area residents in ACA health plans
Leaders of the Gulf Coast Health Insurance Marketplace Collaborative, a group of local agencies that help Houstonians sign up for health insurance plans under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee and local residents needing to obtain health coverage or re-enroll in a health plan
Leaders with the collaborative and Jackson Lee will outline upcoming outreach efforts to help Houston-area residents sign up for health plans during the open enrollment period that starts Nov. 1. The collaborative will kick off its outreach efforts with a community phone bank to contact people helped in previous years. Application counselors staffing the phone bank will check if previous consumers still have health insurance, offer education on how to sign up for a health plan and alert them on the shortened enrollment period of six weeks – half the time as in prior years. They will also set enrollment appointments so people may visit their nearest community center where counselors offer one-on-one assistance and can enroll them in a health plan from the ACA’s Health Insurance Marketplace. Open enrollment allows people to compare and purchase health plans that best suit their family’s medical needs.
Wednesday, Nov. 1; news conference: 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.; photo opportunity of community phone bank: 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
