Investigation into Shooting Incident at 17355 Tomball Parkway
Houston police are investigating an incident in which an off-duty Harris County Sheriff’s Office deputy discharged his weapon at an armed burglary suspect at 17355 Tomball Parkway about 8:35 p.m. on Tuesday (July 16).
The suspect, described only as a black male between 25 and 30 years of age, is not believed to have been struck by the gunfire.
The Harris County Sheriff’s deputy was not injured in the incident.
HPD Special Investigations Unit Detectives R. Lujan, I. Ulloa and J. Brown reported:
An off-duty Harris County Sheriff’s deputy was walking to his vehicle with his family and noticed his truck door was open. As he approached the vehicle, he saw an unknown male suspect in the open doorway of his truck, holding the deputy’s duty belt in one hand and his duty weapon in the other. The deputy identified himself as a Harris County Sheriff’s deputy and drew his off-duty weapon. The suspect, armed with the deputy’s duty weapon, turned toward the deputy.
Fearing he was about to be shot, the deputy discharged his weapon several times at the suspect, but it is not known if he was struck. The suspect then got into a waiting vehicle, described only as a dark-colored, two-door sedan, parked next to the truck and driven by a second unknown black male suspect. The deputy saw the male was still armed with the weapon and, believing him to still be a threat, discharged his weapon at the suspect vehicle, but it is unknown if the vehicle or the suspects were struck. The vehicle fled the location through the parking lot.
As is customary in officer-involved shooting incidents in the Houston city limits, this case is being investigated by the HPD Special Investigations Unit.
