Cardiac arrest survivor reunion

HFD Fire Station 31 – 222 W. Crosstimbers, 77018
In March 2019, Mr. Frank Poncio suffered a cardiac arrest at home. His wife of 47 years, Joanne, called 9-1-1. HFD was dispatched, meanwhile she received CPR instructions from the 9-1-1 calltaker and did chest compressions on her husband. The first 2 links in the chain of survival.
Within minutes, HFD EMTs and paramedics from Station 31 arrived and took over CPR. They administered advanced life support measures, including defibrillation (3rd link). Mrs. Poncio said: “The firefighters were in perfect sync and knew what they were doing. They are worth their weight in gold!” Mr. Poncio regained a pulse and was transported to a local hospital (4th and 5th links). After 33 long days – he finally went home.
The Poncio family are coming to Station 31 to thank everyone at HFD who helped save Frank Poncio. His son, Alex Poncio said: “I am proud to be a Houston firefighter and I want to thank my brother and sister EMTs and paramedics for saving my father’s life!”
Frank and Joanne Poncio are looking forward to celebrating many more years together. Joanne recently celebrated her birthday and said, “The best gift is that he is still here!”
Dr. David Persse, EMS Director will talk about the Chain of Survival.
