Cardiac Arrest Survivor Meets with Pre-Hospital Rescuers
|What:||Cardiac Arrest Survivor reunion|
|When:||Today, October 11, 2016 at 1 p.m.|
|Where:||HFD Station 60 – 2925 Jeanetta St. at CLarkcrest St.|
A few months ago, Mr. David Rubinstein was playing hockey at Bellerive Ice. As he came off the ice, he suddenly collapsed. Fellow hockey players came to his aid, including two EMS Physicians! HFD EMS Director, Dr. Persse and ER doctor, Dr. Gukhool started CPR while Lexie Aldridge called 9-1-1. A few minutes later, someone handed Dr. Persse the Public Access Defibrillator from Bellerive Ice. They applied the unit and shocked David Rubinstein’s heart. Houston Fire Department EMTs and paramedics from 3 different stations arrived quickly and fortunately David already had a pulse. HFD performed advanced life support treatment, as he was still critical. They stabilized and transported him to a local hospital where he later received a quadruple bypass. David has already returned to skating at Bellerive Ice in time for the fall Hockey league!
The Houston Fire Department commends Bellerive Ice for having an Automatic External Defibrillator at the rink – providing a very important link in the chain of survival — which made it possible for David Rubinstein to survive! David is coming to HFD Station 60 to reunite with all his pre-hospital rescuers in his chain-of-survival.
