11th Annual Houston-Harris County Candlelight Vigil Held for victims of alcohol and opioid abuse
HOUSTON – The Houston-Harris County region is among the leaders nationwide when it comes to deaths due to alcohol and other drug abuse

Houston Crackdown, the anti-drug division of the Mayor’s Office of Public Safety and Homeland Security (MOPSHS) and co-sponsors will host a public candlelight vigil for victims who have died as a result of alcohol or other substance-related incidents.
The 11^th annual Houston-Harris County Regional Candlelight Vigil will take place at Herman Square, on the steps of City Hall, 901 Bagby St, Thursday, October 26, 2017, at 7:00pm. Houston area civic and religious leaders will also be on hand to offer spiritual guidance and hope for families that have been devastated by alcohol and opioid addiction.

Personal testimonies will be heard from families who have lost loved ones to opioid and prescription drug abuse. Houston area residents who would like to have their loved ones acknowledged at the event should call the Candlelight Vigil Bereavement Line at 832-393-0972.

Presenters will include Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo, speakers from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and other support groups. The Houston-Harris County region has long been recognized as a model community in developing and supporting initiatives designed to reduce the demand for and consumption of illegal drugs, and to expand the capacity to provide treatment, intervention, and prevention services for Houstonians and Harris County residents in need of help.
